Doyle Glass
Doyle Glass was born in Midland, Texas in 1962. A sixth generation Texan, his family has a rich pioneering heritage that, in Texas, dates back to the days of the Republic. He had an ancestor who died at the Alamo, another who was a Texas Ranger in Sul Ross command, a soldier who fought at Gettysburg and a pioneer cattleman, to name a few. The values held by his family were a great influence on Glass as he grew up.
Art has also been a great influence on Glass' life. His parents were avid collectors of western and wildlife bronzes and paintings. Glass began drawing at an early age. Wildlife, especially birds of prey, and children were his favorite subjects.
Glass' goal in sculpture is to interpret the values that he holds dear into each piece of work. In 2001, he completed the Kentucky Medal of Honor Memorial for the city of Louisville, Kentucky. The six-foot monument honors all Kentucky recipients of our nation's highest decoration for valor. In 2002 , he completed a six-foot statue of Tom T. Wilmeth for the Wilmeth Chapel of Peace in Dequeen, Arkansas. Wilmeth was killed during WWII.
Glass is currently working on the Texas Medal of Honor Memorial, which will be located at the Commemorative Air Force National Headquarters in Midland, Texas. The monument will feature an eight-foot statue of George O' Brien, a Medal of Honor recipient from Midland. The monument will honor all Texas recipients of the Medal of Honor.
Glass attended Southern Methodist University, where he received Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees. He lives in Louisville, Kentucky with his son Jake. In addition to military subjects, family and children are his favorite themes. As always, his family is his true inspiration.
