Lorraine Christie
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Lorraine Christie has been a professional painter since 1990. Although classically trained, she prefers to be known as a self-taught artist. “A person cannot become an artist until they absorb some of the world around them.”
Her unique, impressionistic style has brought her international acclaim and her work is highly prized in Ireland. The Museum of Ulster in Belfast recently made an acquisition of her work. Christie has had many successful high profile exhibitions, including three shows at the W.H. Patterson Gallery in London’s Mayfair District. She has also exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London, Jorgenson Gallery in Dublin, Belfast Castle in Northern Ireland, and to date, has had four sellout shows in Dallas, Texas. Her works are included in many corporate collections from Europe to the Republic of South Africa.
During this time, Christie’s main subject areas have been still-life, floral pieces, figurative, and genre paintings. Recently, however, her fascination with light has drawn her toward the area of landscape painting, drawing inspiration from such masters as Cezanne and Singer-Sargent. She has found another home in her landscapes, exploring and developing her own love of texture and color. She travels frequently to Provence, and paints “plein-air.” With her wonderful, vibrant color and skillful use of light and shade, she re-creates the mood of the land surrounding her.
